Setting the Tone for the Year: Intention, Alignment and Vision at WomX
The start of a new year is more than a calendar change, it is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and intentionally decide how we want to show up. At our January WomX session, we did exactly that. The session was designed to ground the community, reconnect with our alumni, and set a clear, strategic tone for the year ahead.
Reconnecting with Our WomX Alumni: Three Words for the Year
We began the session by checking in with our WomX Alumni from 2025, creating space for reflection and shared intention. Each alumna was invited to share three words that would define her year ahead.
This simple yet powerful exercise highlighted clarity, growth, alignment, and courage as recurring themes. It reminded us that while goals may differ, intention is what anchors progress. Naming the year allows women to move forward with purpose rather than pressure.
An Exciting Year Ahead for the WomX Community
Founder Jayshree Naidoo officially opened the session by sharing her excitement for the year ahead and what is in store for the WomX community. She spoke about growth, expansion, and the continued commitment to creating spaces where women-owned businesses are supported holistically, not just in strategy, but in wellbeing, mindset, and community.
The message was clear: WomX is not just about business development, it is about developing women.
Grounding Through Breathwork: Creating Space to Be Present
Before diving into planning and visioning, the session intentionally slowed down. Raksha Mahabeer guided the community through a breathwork practice focused on grounding, relaxation, and reconnecting with the body.
Participants were guided to:
- Relax the body
- Become aware of their breathing
- Inhale for four seconds
- Hold for four seconds
- Exhale for four seconds
This rhythmic breathing technique helps calm the nervous system, improve focus, and create mental clarity. Breathwork like this is a powerful tool for meditation, stress regulation, and intentional living , reminding us that sustainable success begins with presence.
For those who would like to practise similar breathing techniques at home, simple guided breathwork exercises can be found here: https://www.simplebreathwork.com/
By grounding first, participants were able to approach the rest of the session from a place of clarity rather than overwhelm.
Business Vision Boards: Planning With Intention, Not Control
The session then transitioned into a Business Vision Board workshop facilitated by Khanyisile Metsing. The focus was not on wishful thinking, but on intentional planning rooted in strategy.
One of the key messages shared was this:
If you donβt plan for the year ahead, your business will decide the kind of year you will have.
Planning, however, is not about controlling every outcome, it is about creating direction and alignment.
What Makes a Business Vision Board Different?
Unlike personal vision boards, a business vision board must be grounded in strategy, action, and data. Khanyisile emphasised that while visualisation is powerful, ideas must be aligned to a clear plan to translate into results.<BR>
A business vision board should:
- Reflect realistic goals based on your industry, market, and clientele
- Be aligned to a broader business strategy
- Include actions, milestones, and measurable outcomes
Entrepreneurs, more than anyone, understand what is realistic for their businesses and visioning must honour that reality.
SMART Goals and Entrepreneurial Reality
The session also unpacked the SMART framework and how it applies specifically to business planning. Entrepreneurs were encouraged to interpret SMART goals through the lens of their own capacity, market conditions, and growth stage.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Strategic planning requires honesty, flexibility, and self-awareness.
Vision Boards and the Conscious and Subconscious Mind
A powerful part of the session explored the link between vision boards and both the conscious and subconscious mind. When a vision board is visible, it continuously communicates goals and intentions to the subconscious, reinforcing focus, belief, and action over time.
This is why placement matters, your vision board should be somewhere you see regularly, allowing your mind to stay aligned with your goals even when you are not actively thinking about them.
From Vision to Action
The session closed with practical guidance on how to create a business vision board and the tools that can be used, both digital and physical. The emphasis was on turning clarity into action, and intention into execution.
Closing Reflection
This January session reminded us that success is not accidental. It is the result of intention, alignment, and consistent action. By grounding ourselves, setting clear intentions, and planning strategically, we give ourselves permission to build businesses, and lives, that are sustainable and meaningful.
At WomX, we believe the year ahead should not happen to you. It should be shaped by you.
